Dogwood's school counseling program is based on National School Counseling Standards and the Tennessee State Counseling Method. Therefore, it is development by design and includes sequential activities. The TN school counseling model & standards policy 5.103 includes the following areas: Academic Standards Social and Emotional Standards College and Career Readiness Standards Classroom Guidance We meet with all students in their classrooms every two weeks to discuss topics such as bully prevention, self-esteem, problem solving and decision making, study skills along with reinforcing character education. Please check your child's schedule. In addition, students are encouraged to share with parents what is discussed during guidance class. Individual and Small Group Counseling We meet with these students as needed for these services. After meeting with a student once, permission will be required for additional consultation. Some of the groups offered may include new student, self-esteem, social skills, friendship, anger management, or study skills. Parent/Teacher Conferences If you would like to meet with one of the counselors for a conference to discuss how we can assist your child, please let us know.
